We have designed and developed a mission-critical application used behind the scenes at some of the world’s biggest events.
Raven Controls provides real-time incident and operations management software used at some of the world’s largest live events and venues, including the Ryder Cup, UEFA’s Euro 2020 and the COP26 climate summit.
Their platform helps teams log, monitor and respond to operational issues as they happen, giving event control teams the clarity and shared situational awareness they need to coordinate complex activity under pressure. When Raven partnered with GearedApp, the goal was to extend this capability into a mobile environment and improve how critical operational data was presented to users in real-time.
The Challenge
Raven already had a powerful web-based operations system supported by an expert in-house development team, but there were clear gaps in how that system served event staff working on the ground. Frontline users needed a mobile interface that would let them receive updates, log issues and update statuses in real time while moving around busy venues. In addition, the web dashboard used by control room staff needed better data presentation to make sense of rapidly changing situations during large-scale events, when dozens or hundreds of incidents might be active at once. The challenge was to deliver a dependable mobile experience that complemented an existing system and, at the same time, improve the web interface without disrupting day-to-day operations or compromising data quality.
What We Did
We began by collaborating closely with Raven’s internal development team to design and build a mobile application that worked seamlessly with the existing backend and APIs. The focus was on reliability and usability under pressure: users needed to see incoming operational tasks, log new issues, and update work statuses while on the move. The mobile solution was built to work effectively in environments where connectivity could be variable, and where quick, decisive reporting matters.
Alongside the mobile build, we provided frontend design and development resources to improve the presentation of data within Raven’s web-based dashboard. This involved enhancing user interfaces to make complex real-time data easier to interpret during peak operational periods, particularly at events with high volumes of incident logs and control-room activity. These improvements were tailored to help staff quickly understand trends and priorities without cognitive overload.
Our team worked primarily with modern frontend technologies, including React and React Native for app development, along with supporting tools that improved maintainability and flexibility going forward. Close collaboration with Raven’s team meant decisions about UI and data visualisation were grounded in real event-use insights and technical realities.
Transforming the Experience
The introduction of Raven’s mobile app transformed how frontline event staff interacted with the operational system. Instead of relying on desktop terminals or paper-based processes, teams on the ground could now receive tasks, report issues and update incident statuses in real time, directly from their mobile devices. This increased responsiveness and reduced the gap between what was happening in the field and what control room staff could see.
Enhancements to the web dashboard improved how data was displayed and interpreted. Large volumes of events, logs and issue reports became more digestible, helping control room operators maintain situational awareness during busy events. Rather than sifting through dense text or disjointed screens, users could quickly focus on priority items and trends with clarity, supporting faster, evidence-based decision-making.
Together, the mobile and dashboard improvements gave Raven a more cohesive and scalable platform that works effectively across devices and user contexts, from event-site crews to central operations teams.

Next Steps
Going forward, Raven Controls is well positioned to build on this foundation by iterating on mobile usability, extending dashboard customisation and exploring deeper data visualisation techniques that support predictive and adaptive operational workflows. Further enhancements may focus on improved offline support, tighter integration with third-party systems at live events, and analytics features that help event managers understand patterns and improve planning. The ongoing partnership will ensure that each new phase responds directly to feedback from frontline users and control room teams alike.
