Buzzjar is a platform that allows friends share real experiences to help each other discover brilliant things to do, places to go, and stuff worth booking or buying. Users can earn rewards just for sharing—and make smarter choices based on what people they trust.

Buzzjar is a platform designed to incentivise customer advocacy while preserving the authenticity and integrity of user-generated content. The platform was developed to create a solution that empowers businesses to make the most of genuine customer recommendations and reward their customers. Buzzjar recently reached a significant milestone – submitting their app to the app stores. This launch marks the culmination of extensive development and testing, a pivotal moment for the company as they step into the marketplace.

Transforming an idea into a market-ready product

Buzzjar’s journey from idea to launch has been a multi-phase evolution, spanning over a few years of planning and development. In this time, the name has changed, the functionality has evolved, an admin web dashboard has been introduced to help serve partner companies. The app we see today is the result of multiple iterations, each shaped by market insights, user feedback, and technological advancements. GearedApp played a crucial role in helping Buzzjar move from concept to a minimum viable product (MVP). This MVP allowed Buzzjar to present a tangible version of their platform, meaning they could showcase their thinking to potential customers and highlight how their data could drive business value. With a functional product to share, Buzzjar can now clearly demonstrate the platform’s exciting potential.

Building a robust data storage system

One of the key technical challenges Buzzjar faced was making sure that the data produced by their platform was securely stored. GearedApp helped to develop a reliable data storage system, giving Buzzjar the ability to confidently showcase their data's quality and utility to potential clients. This not only boosted trust in the product’s integrity but also reinforced the platform’s value proposition, ensuring data was in good hands and ready to drive impactful insights.

Tech stack

Our team provided interface design, mobile app development, and full-stack engineering, ensuring a scalable foundation for future growth. The platform’s backend was built using GraphQL for efficient and flexible data querying, with Prisma handling seamless database management. To enhance functionality, we integrated Algolia for search and Twilio for robust communication and notifications. On the web, Buzzjar’s platform was developed using React (CRA), delivering a responsive and intuitive user experience. For mobile, we used React Native to ensure smooth, cross-platform performance across iOS and Android. By leveraging this modern and adaptable architecture, Buzzjar is well-positioned to evolve and scale as its user base grows.

By collaborating with GearedApp, Buzzjar successfully transformed their concept into a viable product, ready to launch in app stores. The development process was highly collaborative, with both teams working closely to adapt the product based on evolving market conditions and internal testing feedback. We embraced an iterative approach, which meant adding, adjusting and refining features along the way. This ensured that the final product was not only technically sound but also strategically aligned with Buzzjar’s goals.
